Bruce and Karen flew in to celebrate Elizabeth Joy's big day. I picked them up at the airport in a t-shirt and jeans this year, where last year they came in during a blizzard! So crazy.
In honor of the snowy day on which Elizabeth Joy was born, Karen made Elizabeth Joy a snow day quilt! Here's the pic, with Caroline dancing, of course.
The morning of her birthday was delighfully slow. We ate breakfast, opened presents and enjoyed each others company. Then David and Bruce went to chapel and class while the girls stayed in and played.
For lunch we went to our usual birthday stop, Jilly's cupcake bar - which also serves lunch food.
David and Bruce showed up for the best part - the cupcakes.
Elizabeth Joy dove into her birthday cupcake with pure sugar delight.
She didn't make it much past the icing though :-)
Here was her big gift from us, an anywhere chair. Karen and I worked together to embroider it ourselves! Ta da!
She LOVES it! David and I knew she would - she loves chairs of all sorts, and now she has her very own big chair to climb all over.
That night we ate Dewey's pizza.
Then Bruce and Karen gave David and me a present - they let us spend the night in their hotel room, while they kept the girls!!! David and I felt like they gave us a million dollars! We were able to rest, be lazy, not clean up after ourselves, not cook, and not wake up to nurse or put a passy back in for any one. We woke up this morning in the 8 a.m. hour (so late for us), went downstairs to the hotel's breakfast, ate leisurely and talked, and then went back upstairs climbed BACK in bed for more rest! It reminded us of our lazy newlywed year. What a sweet retreat. We love our girls to the moon and back, but it was a great little 18 hour break.
